Welcome to the W.I.S.E. Family History Society website. We are dedicated to building community among those who have ancestry in Wales, Ireland, Scotland, and England, and our interests include heraldry, linguistics, emigration and migration, and one-name studies. Our goal is to understand our ancestors by studying the history and culture of the British Isles and Ireland. We value the contributions those comparatively small countries have made to America and take special pleasure in seeing how our ancestors were involved in the relentless tide of history on both sides of the Atlantic.
We are based in Denver, Colorado, but our membership extends across the continent and across the Atlantic. We hold monthly meetings, combining genealogy education with the customs and culture of our ancestors. Our annual events include a summer seminar related to British Isles or Irish genealogy, and a research trip to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
We consider our monthly programs and our W.I.S.E. Words Newsletters to be our society’s principal products, which illustrate the ways we serve our members and the larger family history community. We take great pride in the thoughtfulness, originality, enthusiasm and resourcefulness that go into our programs and publications.
On an annual basis, W.I.S.E. donates resources to the Denver Public Library Genealogy collection. We are always on the lookout for family history resources related to our W.I.S.E. countries to donate for the benefit of the genealogical community.
We are friendly and high-spirited, and welcome everyone with an interest in family history, genealogy and ancestry in the British Isles and Ireland. We hope you will join us!
