Dissecting the Documents: UK Censuses from 1801 to Present
February 24 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Dr. Penny Walters will present on Zoom, “Dissecting the Documents: UK Censuses from 1801 to Present”
This session will look at the development of the United Kingdom decennial censuses starting with the 1801 headcounts through the decades to last year’s 2021 census. Utilising maps, enumerator routes and social history should be combined with census analysis. A 100-year closure rule was established after the 1911 census, so it has been very exciting to have the 1921 census revealed in January 2022.
Dr. Penny Walters has been a University lecturer for 35 years and currently teaches Masters’ Business studies at Bristol and Bath Spa Universities in England. Her interest in genealogy started after having her first baby and then wondering about her biological parents, as she was adopted. She has authored the books “Ethical Dilemmas in Genealogy” (2019) and “The Psychology of Searching” (2020). Look for her in the online schedule for RootsTech 2024.
