The Ulster Historical Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1956 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to promote interest in Irish genealogy and history, focusing on the historical nine-county province of Ulster. The Foundation is one of the leading genealogical research agencies in Ireland, and a major publisher of groundbreaking historical, educational, and genealogical source books.

Fintan Mullan will be making his fourth presentation to W. I.S. E., the first being in 2005. He has been the foundation’s non-executive director since 2001, where he has managed the production of over 100 publications, including Researching Scots-Irish Ancestors. In addition to being speaker for Irish history in Ireland, Fintan has spoken in Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and in most of the United States.

Gillian Hunt, Fintan’s co-speaker, has been part of the last two presentations to W.I.S.E. Gillian Hunt is a research officer with the foundation and manages the genealogy side of the foundation’s work. She performs research for clients and is very experienced in the General Register Office and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. She teaches courses in Northern Ireland and gives talks about family history in Ireland, the U.K., the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

  • Understanding Irish townlands
  • Using land records
  • Using printed sources for Irish family history
  • Records related to the Different Churches
  • There will be a “live”Q&A via Zoom to be held on May 20. Questions can be submitted via e-mail prior to the Q&A date. If time allows, questions can be asked during the Q&A.
  • The recording and syllabus will be available May 1 thru May 30 for all who are registered for the seminar. Q&A will also be recorded and available through May 30, 2023.
